The folks at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have brought contractors to town to provide technical support for rebuilding homes in Kiowa County . These contractors in Greensburg are John Holton and Duncan Prahl, experts known as building science engineers. They can help with all aspects of “greening your home” but most notably helping you get the most energy efficiency for the least amount of money. There is no charge for their services and they have nothing to sell; their presence is made available by a generous grant from DOE/NREL. They can help at any stage of your rebuilding or remodeling, but the earlier in the process that they are contacted, the more they can help. They can help you choose a house plan or look at the ones you already have. They can answer the questions you have about “what is green” and give you unbiased information on appliances. We urge all residents to take advantage of their services to help you and Greensburg/Kiowa County to realize the goal of having homes with super energy efficiency and the most “green” features for the least amount of money. There is also a great energy efficiency upgrade package worth $3800 available to the first ten homes in Greensburg that qualify. Read more here.
