It is too early to tell for sure, but the parties who are discussing the restoration of the Kiowa County Courthouse are exploring ways to rehab the interior of this 85-year old building to make it a model of sustainable design. County representative Ray Stegman, planner Stephen Hardy from BNIM Architecture, and representatives from NREL, PEC, MVP and GreenTown are exploring such options as solar, geothermal (ground source) heating and cooling, high efficiency lighting, and daylighting (using the sun's natural light in lieu of electricity). The Courthouse is the only multi-level building south of the highway to have survived the storm. This beautiful building is a gem, and it is hoped that adequate funding can be secured to make it the greenest historic building in America.
