Resident Greenius: Bob Mosier

Bob Mosier was green long before May 2007. For six years, Bob served as the president of the local Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) chapter. During that time, he helped implement a variety of sustainable initiatives for Greensburg, including a curbside recycling service as well as a bike refurbishing program.
After the tornado and the community's decision to rebuild sustainably, Bob took it up a notch. Not only is Mr. Mosier the new state president of RC&D, he is rehabbing his historic home to be significantly more energy efficient, he is a board member of Greensburg GreenTown, he is preparing to install a solar array on his roof, and, quite importantly, he is the proud owner of a scooter that gets 100 miles per gallon.
Bob first got wind of this alternative mode of transportation from an ad in a local newspaper. Inspired by the Green Initiative (as well as the rising cost of gas), he decided to make a trip to Kingman, Kansas to check out the scooters at Bobz Bikz.
As soon as he laid on eyes on the 50 cc Tank Moped, he was sold. For one gallon of gas (about $2.50), he could ride 100 miles. Bob saw this as the perfect vehicle for in-town errands. Instead of lugging around 3000+ pounds of metal to pick up a loaf of bread, he could just as easily hop on his 250-pound scooter. $1,300 later, Bob was riding off into the sunset.
Now, Bob also mentioned some cons of scooter riding that he wanted to share with folks: (a) it's pretty tough to ride in the dead of winter, and through a spring thunderstorm (b) the top speed is 35 mph with the wind at your back and (c) "it won't get you any girlfriends since it's not that big".
Besides these minor setbacks, Bob is thoroughly enjoying his daily rides around town. If you happen to see him, feel free to flag him down...he's always up for chatting!

I've know Bot since he was a superintendent of the usd 422 school district. Then we shared a time of working together on what was the Greensburg Development Board. I think there are few as qualified to represent Greensburg than Bob.
I love the concept and have my own Personal Electric Transportation that I use in Orlando Florida. Mine goes 20 miles on a charge and has some of the same cons as Bob's but I'm having fun too. Wonder if anyone in Greensburg would like what I have? Check it out: www.gopetorlando.com
