Kiowa County Courthouse Tour

Last Friday the community came together to celebrate yet another successful construction project in the City of Greensburg. As a crowd gathered in front of the stately building, one could sense an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia amongst the residents. During his speech, County Commissioner Gene West put it well: "It's a building of the future, but it ties us to the past."

After the ribbon had officially been cut, I was able to understand the meaning behind those words.

Main entrance with a replica of the original glass panels.

Main hallway with original tile flooring and reclaimed wood doors.

Stairway with original exposed facade.

Mechanical closet with geothermal heating and cooling system.

Shanti - Thanks for writing! Yes, we'll get those photos onto the Sustainable Building Database as well - good suggestion. Hope you're enjoying the summer . . .

I am so happy we have a courthouse back. In a strange way, the lack of oversized elms reminds me of the pictures taken when it was first completed. May we have so many years and more to enjoy the new trees.
