Honda Natural Gas Vehicle Up for Bidding

Want to save money on fuel, reduce your carbon footprint, and help tornado-devastated Greensburg, Kansas become a model green community? It’s simple. From now through July 26 you can click the eBay link and bid to win a 2007 Honda Civic GX, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle. This donation is made possible by Roger Scholfield of Scholfield Honda (Wichita, Kansas) and  the American Honda Motor Company. Roger was the first major donor to GreenTown, and Honda has joined in making a second generous contribution to the organization.  All proceeds from the auction will benefit Greensburg GreenTown. You can support the rebuilding of Greensburg and land yourself in the seat of a car you’ll feel great about driving.

Why CNG Benefits Your Wallet and the Environment

Natural gas is a commonly used energy source. It’s what most people use to heat their homes and it can be used to power a car in the form of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). One of the desirable aspects of CNG is that it’s cheaper than gasoline. The price for CNG varies by state, but typically costs between $0.97 and $2.20 per gallon. To find out prices and locations of CNG stations near you, check the following website: http://www.cngprices.com/. Home filling stations can also be purchased that hook directly into your existing natural gas line.

On top of saving you money, your winning bid will help reduce the harmful emissions that cause climate change and common health issues. Relative to conventional gasoline, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) found that CNG vehicles have the following environmental benefits:

  • Reductions in carbon monoxide (CO) emissions of 90 to 97 percent
  • Reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of 25 percent.
  • Fewer toxic and carcinogenic pollutants and little to no particulate matter produced

Remember, by reducing these types of emissions you’re supporting future generations by keeping the air clean and the planet healthy!

Greensburg GreenTown: Helping to Build a Model Green Community

All of the proceeds from the auction will benefit Greensburg GreenTown, a nonprofit helping Greensburg, Kansas, rebuild as a model of sustainable building and green living after an EF5 tornado devastated the town in May 2007. We work locally, spearheading the Green Initiative, as well as share information with other communities and individuals around the world. Several projects are underway, including establishing the town as an educational eco-tourism destination, building tourable Eco-Homes and continuing to provide local residents, businesses and government support in rebuilding sustainably.
