Local Artist's Work Featured in Silo Eco-Home

With the Silo Eco-Home nearing completion, we have some exciting new features to share with you. At the top of our list is our beautiful found object handrail made by the talented Dustin Sypher. Dustin, who graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Sculpture, was compelled to move back to the area (where his family settled in the 1880s) upon hearing of the tornado and Greensburg's decision to rebuild sustainably.

Dustin has been involved in a number of projects around town including: the Green Club's bench project, the Ellers' staircase railings (which you can view in this video), and various pieces for the 5.4.7 Arts Center.

He continues to make fireplace accessories, sculptures, garden trellises and garden art, staircase railings, wall sconces and other lighting fixtures, furniture, and other hand-forged ornamental ironwork. In the future, he hopes to teach the art of blacksmithing so that he can contribute to the preservation of this lost art.

If interested in viewing more of his work, please check out his website: www.tallgrassforge.com.

I had the great fortune to work on the bamboo flooring upstairs and was present when the railings were installed...they are beautiful and so rich with meaning, given that they were once farm equipment. Any chance you could post pictures of the hopefully completed flooring? :)

Thanks for writing, Christopher - and thank you for working on our bamboo flooring! The Silo Eco-Home is scheduled to be completed this summer, and we'll post photos of the interior and exterior features. I like your idea of specifically showing the floors - they are indeed beautiful. This product was generously donated by Warner Bamboo - you can check out their website at http://www.warnerbamboo.com/
