Dale Family Farms Featured at Farmers' Market

Over the weekend Mason and I headed to Davis Park to check out the goods at the Greensburg Farmers' Market. Amongst a variety of local jams, fresh rhubarb, and rose bushes, were a couple of new products: frozen grass-finished beef, pastured poultry, and fresh eggs. After chatting with Andi for a bit, we started to understand the true uniqueness of Dale Family Farms.

For over 100 years, the Dale family has been striving to incorporate sustainability into every aspect of their ranching operation. Instead of sending their cattle to feedlots to be finished on a specialized diet comprised of hay, corn, sorghum, and various by-products, the Dale family allows their animals to remain in their natural environment. Furthermore, the beef they sell contains no synthetic growth hormones or antibiotics.

Their chickens are also allowed to free range, foraging for green grass, seeds, and insects. This feeding method (which the Dales refer to as the "salad bar" approach) tends to improve the flavor and texture of the meat and eggs that are produced.

We, at GreenTown, extend our thanks to the Dale family for not only sharing their delicious products, but for sharing their story as well!

If you haven't yet visited our Farmers' Market, we hope to see you there next Saturday! The market takes place from 8-11 am in Davis Park.
