TADgreen, a New Hampshire-based company, has generously gifted the families of Greensburg with cutting-edge, environmentally-friendly cleaning products. Dubbed E-cloths, these microfiber cloths promise "perfect cleaning with just water". The technology behind this product was developed in the early 1990s for use in Swedish hospitals, and later was introduced to the general public in the United Kingdom. This cloth is now the leading brand of non-chemical cleaning cloths in the U.K.; it earned the Green Product of the Year 2007 award from the prestigious U.K-.based Good Housekeeping Institute.
The U. S. distributor of these cloths, TADgreen, is on a mission to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals Americans use in our everyday cleaning products. Armed with only an E-cloth and water, a consumer can safely and effectively clean household surfaces. The advanced technology of these cloths differs from that of typical microfiber products on the market. There are 1,200,000 fiber strands per square inch of surface area, which allow the cloths to clean dirt and bacteria. The high-quality cloths are designed to withstand the high heat of 300 machine washings.
TADgreen hopes to help Greensburg residents cut way back on the use of harmful and unnecessary household cleaning chemicals, and to reduce the number of trees harvested to make paper products. Here are a couple of eye-opening statistics: If each household in the U.S. replaced just one 70-sheet roll of paper towels per year with an E-cloth, we would save 544,000 trees. (source: Natural Resources Defense Council) TADgreen cites an EPA study that finds that an estimated 51,000 trees per day are needed to replace the paper towels that are disposed of daily. There is a whole other layer to this story - the amount of toxic chemicals that are used in the production of disposable paper products. (We found an interesting website that gives a history of the paper towel industry and which cites additional statistics about the side effects of producing paper products.)
TADgreen generously donated 300 kitchen packs, 300 bathroom packs, and 300 water spray bottles for distribution locally. GreenTown hopes that every household in town will discover the benefits of using these unique high-tech cleaning products. GreenTown staff have taken the cloths for a test-drive and report very impressive results.
