There's more to the Silo Eco-Home than a pretty face. Behind its eight inch thick steel reinforced concrete walls lies a "smarter than your average bear" mechanical system. Generally, with respect to residential construction the term mechanical system refers to plumbing, electricity and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). Smarter plumbing means less water use and more efficient water heating. Smarter electricity means less energy use and renewable sources of electricity production. Smarter HVAC means less energy in and more heating/cooling out in the form of high quality air.
Soon, we'll go into the nitty-gritty of each mechanical system. Today, however, we want to thank two of the men diligently working to make the Silo Eco-Home into a reality: Bob Dolan of BMK Plumbing and Solar of the Midwest and Bruce Murray of Murray's Electric. In addition to demonstrating top-notch craftsmanship, each shares our vision of making Greensburg into a model green community for the nation.
Here's to green jobs and home mechanics!
