Student Volunteers Build a Compost Bin from Discarded Pallets.
Greensburg has been buzzing with volunteer help this spring. Students on spring break, retirees, and other compassionate folks have flooded the town with help, for which we are very grateful. We wanted to give special recognition to the group from Clark Montessori High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. The group of 18 students and 3 teachers traveled by train to Kansas and spent a week helping out with a number of projects in town.
GreenTown’s Ruth Ann Wedel did an outstanding job of coordinating this group’s schedule and logistics while they were here. Rev. Terry Mayhew and the folks at the First United Methodist Church generously hosted this group and gave them a place to stay. Kiowa County Memorial Hospital Administrator Mary Sweet loaned us their bus, which made in-town transportation easy.
At GreenTown we are receiving an increasing number of inquiries from groups who want to come be a part of the greening of Greensburg. We know that the Green Initiative is a facet of local tourism that is gaining a lot of momentum and holds tremendous potential for the future. Local residents will be joining staff in giving these Green Tours and showing off the progress we've made these past two years.
FYI - If you'd like to build a compost bin like the one shown in the photo, you can find the instructions here.
