The Weather Channel Features Greensburg

Sunday night, The Weather Channel launched its “When Weather Changed History” episode featuring Greensburg. The show's gripping footage spotlights the tornado and aftermath, and includes interviews with several residents about their experiences the night of May 4, 2007. The program progresses into depicting how City leaders made the decision to rebuild as a sustainable model community. It is significant that the Green Initiative is a history-making event in the minds of the show's producers. Entitled “Green Town”, this episode will be repeated throughout the week.

On Tuesday, February 24, The Weather Channel's "Tornado Week" featured a segment on Greensburg. The episode focused on the stories of Kansas State Treasurer Dennis McKinney (who was our State Representative at the time of the storm), his daughter Lindy, and their next-door neighbors, the Coss family. View their moving accounts of the night of the tornado here.

This is yet another of many, many examples of how the Greensburg story continues to make news, nearly two years after the tornado. The decision to rebuild as America’s Model Green Town captivates people’s imaginations and inspires folks around the world.
