Frequently Asked Questions > General Questions > What is going on with the Discovery Network and Leonardo DiCaprio?

The Discovery Network is filming a 13-part series entitled "Eco-Town" which is following  the town as it rebuilds in an environmentally friendly or "green" manner. The film crew started filming in August and the show is set to air in early Summer 2008.

Pilgrim Films, the company in charge of the production istself, has a couple dozen staff and crew living near town. They are capturing all the big events in town, most of the meetings, and they are tracking many local folks that are considered "characters" in the series.

The crew is filming this as a documentary and as such has needed to maintain it objective  journalistic perspective. Still, they have become a part of the fabric of this tight-knit community and there is a warm connection between the crew and many of the residents. While there was concern early on about this large infusion of "Hollywood type" strangers (and there was much concern about how strange they might be) into  the tiny rural town still raw from the effects of the storm,  they have skillfully blended into the community itself. This is no artificial  manipulation of the community that one might expect from the production team so they could get the story they were looking for, but a rather a powerful coming together of two distinct cultures. And while the cultures are different, the people are not. And this story line itself -  blue state meeting red state, rural meeting urban, young and hip meeting conservative and modest - comes together at a heart level to address some of the biggest challenges that face our planet. It is poetic that this story of the production crew and the town residents is a microcosm of the greater story that is being played out (and mostly filmed) in Greensburg.
